Local Indigenous Advice: Packing for Erg Chebbi
The Sahara Desert experiences extreme diurnal temperature swings. In winter months (December to February), daytime temperatures can feel delightfully sunny at 18°C, but clear skies cause temperatures to plunge to near 0°C (32°F) immediately after sunset.
Instead of heavy coats, we recommend layering (thermal base layer + light sweater + windproof fleece jacket). Don't forget a traditional cotton Cheche turban scarf—it is the single most effective piece of gear to shield your eyes, face, and neck against fine quartz sand and desert sun.
