Marrakech has more hammams per square kilometre than any other city in Morocco — from the ancient neighbourhood hammams that have served the medina for centuries to the luxurious riad spas that have turned the tradition into an art form. This experience sits at the perfect intersection: a beautifully restored riad spa in the heart of the medina that uses entirely traditional methods and materials.

The hammam is not merely a bath. It is the oldest form of social wellness in North African culture, practised for over a thousand years as a ritual of purification, community, and deep physical restoration.

The Treatment Process

Step 1 — Steam room: Enter the warm, tiled steam room and allow 10–15 minutes of gentle heat to open your pores. The steam is infused with eucalyptus and orange blossom.

Step 2 — Beldi black soap: Your attendant applies savon beldi — a paste of fermented olive pulp, rich in oleic acid and vitamin E — across your entire body. Left to work for 5–10 minutes, it begins dissolving dead skin cells and deeply nourishing the skin beneath.

Step 3 — Kessa exfoliation: The signature treatment. Using a rough kessa glove, the attendant methodically exfoliates your skin from head to toe. The result is visible immediately — rolls of dead skin are removed and the skin underneath is noticeably smoother and more luminous. Most guests are astonished by how much their skin changes in under 20 minutes.

Step 4 — Rhassoul clay mask (optional, strongly recommended): A mineral-rich clay paste from the Middle Atlas mountains is applied as a full-body mask, drawing out impurities from the pores and leaving skin extraordinarily soft.

Step 5 — Final rinse and argan oil: Cool water closes the pores and a final application of Moroccan argan oil moisturises and protects the freshly revealed skin.

Argan Oil Massage Add-on

Complete the experience with a 45-minute argan oil full-body massage. Moroccan massage blends gentle Swedish relaxation techniques with deeper work on the shoulders, lower back, and legs — the areas most affected by long days of walking through the medina's cobblestone streets.
