New Year's Eve in Marrakech: Where to Celebrate
Marrakech doesn't have one single defining New Year's Eve event the way some cities do — it has several parallel ones, and where you end up depends more on what kind of evening you want than on any one "must-do" venue. Broadly, your options are a restaurant or bar in Gueliz, a hotel or riad terrace, the city's free public fireworks event, or leaving the city altogether for a desert camp. All four are legitimate ways to spend the night, and most travelers end up combining two of them — dinner somewhere, then a walk to wherever the fireworks are visible from.
Dinner and drinks in Gueliz
Gueliz and Hivernage are where Marrakech's restaurant and bar scene actually lives, and New Year's Eve is one of the few nights these places genuinely fill up, so booking ahead matters more than usual. L'Entrepôtes, a French-Asian fusion restaurant and cocktail bar on Rue Tarik Ibn Ziad known for its live music and well-stocked bar, is a solid pick if you want dinner and drinks in the same place rather than moving between venues. For a bigger night out afterward, Theatro Marrakech and 555 Famous Club are the city's main late-night options, while Le Comptoir Darna leans more toward dinner with a show than a straight club night. The free public fireworks
In recent years, the Marrakech Regional Tourism Council has organized a free public New Year's event — a "Fan Zone" near Bab Jdid — with live music and DJs building up to a midnight fireworks display over the city. It's open admission, family-friendly, and the closest thing Marrakech has to an official countdown event, though the exact format and location can shift from year to year, so it's worth checking closer to the date rather than assuming it repeats identically. Jemaa el-Fnaa and the streets around the Koutoubia are the other natural gathering point — less organized, but that's part of the appeal, with drummers and street energy building through the evening regardless of what's officially scheduled.
A hotel or riad terrace instead
If crowds aren't your thing, a rooftop terrace at your riad or hotel is a genuinely good alternative — you get the skyline and, in most years, a view of fireworks from elsewhere in the city, without needing to fight for a spot at Bab Jdid. Several hotels run their own New Year's Eve dinners with a countdown on the terrace; ask at check-in, since these are usually ticketed separately from a normal room booking and fill up early in December.

Dress warmer than you would for a normal Marrakech evening; December nights drop into single digits Celsius, and standing outside for a midnight countdown is colder than it sounds.
