A hot air balloon ride over Marrakech is a breathtaking experience from the first moment the balloon inflates. Rising silently into the cool morning air, the city unfolds beneath you — the patchwork rooftops of the medina, the silver threads of irrigation canals cutting through the Palmeraie, and on clear days the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains stretching across the horizon.

The Palmeraie — Marrakech's ancient palm grove — is the primary flying zone. Over 100,000 palm trees spread out below like a green ocean, interspersed with luxury villas and the occasional nomad encampment. At dawn, the light is extraordinary: soft gold washing across the palms while the city is still quiet.

What to Expect

Before the flight: Transfer from your hotel to the launch site outside the city. Watch the balloon inflate (30–40 minutes) — an impressive spectacle — while your pilot conducts a safety briefing. Launches take place at sunrise, approximately 6–7 am depending on the season.

During the flight: Flights last approximately 60 minutes, covering 15–25 km depending on wind. Your pilot navigates by altitude, alternating low passes over the palm canopy with climbs to 300+ metres for Atlas Mountain panoramas.

After the flight: Celebrate with a traditional Moroccan breakfast in the desert — fresh bread, honey, amlou (argan and almond paste), mint tea, fresh-squeezed orange juice — followed by a champagne toast. Then transfer back to your hotel.

• Flights operate year-round (weather permitting; postponed if winds exceed safe limits)
• Best months: October–May for clearest Atlas views
• Minimum age: 6 years old
• Maximum weight: 120 kg per person
• Wear layers — it is 5–8°C cooler at altitude than on the ground
• Book at least 48 hours in advance; capacity is limited to 8–12 passengers per balloon
