Egypt and Morocco sit at opposite ends of North Africa, and there's no land border or direct route connecting them — Libya and Algeria sit in between, and the practical answer for getting from one to the other is almost always a flight. The two countries are also in the same time zone, so however you travel, jet lag isn't something you need to plan around.

How long the flight takes

A flight between Cairo and Marrakech or Casablanca runs roughly 4.5 to 6 hours in the air, depending on the route and whether it's direct or has a stop — Royal Air Maroc and EgyptAir are the two carriers most travelers end up flying, sometimes with a connection through Casablanca rather than a true nonstop. Add the usual airport buffers on both ends — arriving early, checking in, clearing security, then baggage and passport control on arrival — and door-to-door you're realistically looking at 8 to 12 hours total, similar to what you'd expect on any long-haul-adjacent international flight. Exact schedules and whether a given day's flight is direct or connecting change often enough that it's worth checking a booking site (Skyscanner, Kayak, or the airline directly) close to your travel dates rather than relying on any figure published here.

Why flying is the only realistic option

It's worth addressing directly because people do ask: there is no viable overland or sea route from Egypt to Morocco. A ferry across the Mediterranean exists in theory but involves an irregular, multi-leg journey with a long overnight crossing plus another full day of driving on the Moroccan side — it ends up taking a day or more longer than flying while typically costing more once you add transport and lodging along the way. Driving isn't an option either, since Libya and Algeria's borders make a direct overland crossing impractical for ordinary travelers. Flying isn't just the fastest option — for this specific route, it's the only one worth seriously considering.

Entering Morocco

Egyptian passport holders currently need a visa to enter Morocco — this is one of the few nationalities in the region that isn't covered by Morocco's visa-free list, so it's worth applying at the Moroccan embassy or consulate in Cairo well before you book flights, not something to leave until the week of travel. Visa rules do change, so confirm the current requirement and processing time directly with the embassy rather than assuming this guide is still accurate by the time you travel. Most Western nationalities (EU, US, Canadian passport holders among them) do get a 90-day visa-free allowance, which is a real difference worth knowing if you're traveling as a mixed group — check your own specific nationality's requirement rather than assuming everyone in your party is covered the same way.

On arrival, budget an hour or two for passport control, baggage claim, and picking up a local SIM or cash before you're out of the airport and into a taxi. If you're landing in Marrakech, a pre-arranged transfer or airport taxi into the city center takes about 30 minutes to an hour depending on traffic and where you're staying.

Combining the two countries in one trip

Egypt and Morocco work well together as a two-country trip precisely because a single flight connects them — a common pattern is a few days in Cairo around the pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, then a flight to Marrakech to pick up the Morocco side of the trip: the medina, the Atlas Mountains, and a multi-day desert trip out to the Sahara dunes near Merzouga.
