Be more cautious, not less, about an unusually cheap last-minute offer — a legitimate operator with a genuinely empty seat might discount it, but a price far below everyone else's is more often a sign of corners being cut on the vehicle, the camp, or the guide.
When camps genuinely sell out
Desert camps have finite capacity, and during New Year's, spring break, and other peak weeks they do sell out — sometimes weeks in advance for the better ones. If a specific camp or camp tier matters to you, ask directly whether it has space before assuming a last-minute booking guarantees your preferred setup — you may end up with whichever camp has room rather than the one you'd have picked with more lead time.

Zagora is worth visiting in its own right, but if the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi are specifically what you came for, confirm the tour's endpoint before you pay.
