Marrakech to Merzouga Luxury Tour: Ultimate Desert Elegance
What our top-tier private Marrakech-to-Merzouga tour actually includes — the itinerary, the upgraded desert camp, and what genuinely changes at this comfort level.
Marrakech to Merzouga Luxury Tour: Ultimate Desert Elegance
This is our top-tier private option for the classic Marrakech-to-Merzouga route: a 3-day journey run entirely for your own group, with the accommodation, meals, and pacing upgraded at every step rather than following the standard private-tour format. It's built for travelers who want the full Sahara experience — the dunes, the camel trek, the night sky — without compromising on comfort anywhere along the way.
What makes it different from a standard private tour
The vehicle is a private luxury 4x4 with a dedicated English- or French-speaking driver-guide, and every stop along the way is upgraded accordingly: skip-the-line access at Ait Ben Haddou, a gourmet lunch at a kasbah restaurant rather than a standard roadside stop, and an overnight at a boutique kasbah hotel in Skoura's palm grove rather than a standard guesthouse. The desert night is where it matters most, though — a private luxury tent with an en-suite bathroom, a proper king-size bed, and its own terrace, rather than the shared or semi-private setups at lower tiers.
The three days
Day one crosses the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with a stop at Ait Ben Haddou and a scenic lunch, continuing to an overnight at the Skoura kasbah hotel with a candlelit private dinner.
Day two continues through the Valley of Roses and Todgha Gorge to Merzouga, arriving at the edge of Erg Chebbi in the afternoon. From there it's a private camel trek to camp timed for sunset, followed by a gourmet dinner under the stars and, conditions permitting, a stargazing session with a guide who can point out what you're actually looking at.
Day three includes an optional early activity — a sunrise camel ride, or a quieter option back to the lodge for breakfast — a stop at the traditional market in Rissani, and the return drive to Marrakech with a scenic lunch stop in the Atlas foothills, arriving back in the city in the evening.
What's included
The price covers the private 4x4 and driver-guide throughout, one night at the Skoura kasbah hotel and one night in the luxury desert camp, all meals across the three days with selected beverages, guided visits at every major stop, the sunset camel trek, the stargazing session (weather permitting), and entrance fees. International flights, travel insurance, personal expenses, tips, and extra alcohol beyond what's included with meals are on you, as with any tour at any tier.
A few practical notes
Camp Wi-Fi is available but, being a genuinely remote desert location, coverage can be inconsistent — worth setting expectations accordingly rather than assuming city-level reliability. The best months for this tour are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), when daytime temperatures are comfortable; winter days are cooler with genuinely cold nights, and summer gets extremely hot, so plan accordingly if you're flexible on timing. Pack light layers for the day, a warm one for the evening regardless of season, sun protection, and swimwear for the pool at the kasbah hotel.
Frequently asked
Is this really private for just our group? Yes — there's no pooling with other travelers at any point in this itinerary. Is the stargazing session guaranteed? It's included and runs whenever conditions allow; if clouds or dust get in the way, we'll suggest an alternative for the evening instead. What if we have dietary requirements? Let us know in advance and the kitchen will accommodate it, at both the hotel and the desert camp.
