This is the fast version: a full first day driving from Marrakech through the High Atlas, a stop at Ait Benhaddou, and arrival in Merzouga by late afternoon in time for a sunset camel trek and a night in the desert camp, followed by a sunrise trek and the full drive back the next day. It includes round-trip private transport, the camp night, both camel treks, and breakfast and dinner. Realistically, you're looking at 8-10 hours of actual desert time out of the two days — most of it is driving. It works for travelers who are genuinely short on time and would rather see a condensed version of the Sahara than skip it, but if your schedule allows it, three days makes for a noticeably less rushed trip.
3-day, 2-nights (from €250) — the one most people choose
Adding a single extra day changes the trip significantly: instead of driving straight through, the first night is spent in the Dades Valley, with the second day continuing through the Todgha Gorge before reaching Merzouga in the afternoon. That extra stop means real time in the gorges rather than driving past them, plus a proper night's rest partway through instead of one long push. It includes round-trip transport, two nights (one hotel, one desert camp), both camel treks, most meals, and a 4x4 dune excursion. For most first-time visitors, this is the right balance of time, cost, and pace.
4-day, 3-nights (from €420)
The extra day goes toward slowing down rather than covering new ground — more time to actually walk around Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate instead of a quick photo stop, a full day exploring the Dades Valley and Berber villages before continuing to the desert, and more time in camp once you arrive. Groups tend to be smaller on the longer tours, and accommodation steps up a level (better hotels, a more premium camp). It suits travelers who want to actually spend time in the places along the route rather than just pass through them — photographers especially.
5-day, 4-nights (from €520)
The longest standard version adds even more room on both legs of the route — useful if you want to build in the Todgha Gorge properly, add extra desert time, or simply not feel like every day involves several hours of driving. It's the best fit if you have the days to spare and want the most relaxed version of this trip rather than the most efficient one.
What's typically not included, across all lengths
Lunches at some stops (dinner and breakfast are usually covered, lunch is often on you, roughly 80-120 MAD), tips for your driver-guide (10-15% is customary), entrance fees to specific sites like the Atlas Film Studios, and travel insurance. When to go
