Itinerary

1

Marrakech

The Marrakech medina is a UNESCO World Heritage maze of more than 600 hectares, and most first-time visitors spend their first day lost, tired of "faux guides" and unsure which doors hide a palace and which hide a carpet shop. A private licensed guide changes everything: you walk the real history of the Red City, enter the right monuments at the right time, and learn where locals actually eat and shop.

What you will see:

  1. Koutoubia Mosque & gardens — the minaret that inspired the Giralda in Seville (non-Muslims visit the exterior and gardens).
  2. Kasbah & Saadian Tombs (optional) — the 16th-century royal necropolis.
  3. Bahia Palace — 19th-century vizier palace, about 45 minutes inside.
  4. Mellah — the old Jewish quarter, spice market and Lazama Synagogue.
  5. Jemaa el-Fna — the heart of the medina.
  6. The souks — Semmarine, Attarine, dyers' souk and artisan workshops.
  7. Ben Youssef Madrasa — carved stucco, cedar and a peaceful courtyard to finish.

Good to know: Best start times: 9:00 (cooler, fewer crowds) or 15:00 to end at Jemaa el-Fna for sunset · Walking: about 4–6 km on flat but uneven lanes — wear comfortable shoes

Not included here: Monument entrance tickets (Bahia Palace ~100 MAD, Ben Youssef ~50 MAD, Saadian Tombs ~100 MAD); Transport from Guéliz/Hivernage to the medina (petit taxi ~20–30 MAD).

2

Fes

Fes el-Bali has more than 9,000 lanes and no cars, and it is genuinely easy to get lost — Google Maps often fails between the high walls. It is also the most authentic medieval city in the Arab world: the University of Al-Qarawiyyin was founded here in 859, and craftsmen still tan leather, weave silk and hammer brass exactly as they did centuries ago.

What you will see:

  1. Bab Bou Jeloud — the Blue Gate, entrance to Fes el-Bali.
  2. Talaa Kebira — the main lane, with food stalls and artisans.
  3. Bou Inania Madrasa — 14th-century Marinid masterpiece.
  4. Al-Attarine Madrasa & Al-Qarawiyyin — the spiritual heart of Fes.
  5. Seffarine Square — coppersmiths at work.
  6. Chouara Tannery — the iconic dye pits, seen from a leather shop terrace.
  7. Nejjarine Square — woodwork museum and fountain (optional entry).

Good to know: Best start time: 9:00 — the tanneries are most active in the morning · Walking: steep in places and slippery when wet — wear closed shoes

Not included here: Monument entrance tickets (madrasas ~20–30 MAD each); Transport from the Ville Nouvelle to the medina (petit taxi ~20 MAD).

3

Casablanca

Most travellers land in Casablanca and leave the same day — but with a few hours and a local guide, the city is a surprising introduction to modern Morocco. The Hassan II Mosque sits on the Atlantic with a 210-metre minaret, and its guided interior visit is one of the only chances in the country for non-Muslims to step inside a mosque.

What you will see:

  1. Hassan II Mosque — exterior and guided interior visit at the official tour times.
  2. Old Medina & Sqala — 18th-century bastion and the port.
  3. Mohammed V Square & downtown — Art Deco and neo-Moorish buildings.
  4. Habous quarter — the 1930s New Medina, olive and spice stalls, Moroccan pastries.
  5. Corniche Ain Diab — ocean views and the Marabout of Sidi Abderrahmane.

Good to know: Mosque tours: run several times a day except Friday morning; we time your tour around them · Dress code for the mosque: shoulders and knees covered; women do not need to cover their hair for the tour

Not included here: Hassan II Mosque interior ticket (about 140 MAD per adult, paid on site); Transport between districts (taxi or private car with driver available on request).

4

Merzouga & Rissani

Most visitors come to Merzouga for the dunes of Erg Chebbi and never see the oasis culture around them. Thirty-five kilometres north on the N13, Rissani was once Sijilmassa, the great caravan city where gold, salt and slaves crossed the Sahara — and the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty that still rules Morocco today.

What you will see:

  1. Merzouga village — the old ksar, the school and daily oasis life.
  2. N13 to Rissani (about 35 km, 35 minutes) — views of the palm groves of Tafilalet.
  3. Ksar Al Fida — restored 19th-century palace-ksar.
  4. Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif and the Ksar Oulad Abdelhalim.
  5. Ruins of Sijilmassa — the lost caravan city.
  6. Rissani souk — spices, dates, jewellery and the donkey market.

Good to know: Best days: Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday, when the Rissani souk is at its busiest · Best time: morning start (8:30–9:00), before the midday heat

Not included here: Transport to Rissani by car (available on request); Small entrance donations at Ksar Al Fida.

5

Ait Ben Haddou

Ait Ben Haddou is the most famous ksar in Morocco — a fortified village of earth and straw rising above the Ounila river on the old caravan road between the Sahara and Marrakech. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a film set for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

What you will see:

  1. New village & Ounila river crossing — the classic postcard view.
  2. Lower ksar — kasbah towers, gates and family houses.
  3. Traditional house visit — how families live in earthen architecture.
  4. Hilltop granary — panorama of the valley and the High Atlas.
  5. Artists' workshops — saffron and tea paintings.
  6. Optional: Kasbah of Tamdaght (6 km) or Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate.

Good to know: Best time: early morning or late afternoon for soft light and fewer day-trip crowds from Marrakech · Walking: steep, uneven steps to the granary — wear good shoes and bring water

Not included here: Transport from Ouarzazate (30 km, about 30 minutes — available on request); Small entrance fees for family houses (about 10–20 MAD).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a private guided tour cost?

Prices are per person and always private: €70 for 1 person, €45 per person for 2, €35 for 3, €30 for 4, and €25 per person for groups of 5 or more. Entrance tickets to monuments are paid separately on the day.

Which cities can I book a private guided tour in?

Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca, Merzouga & Rissani, and Ait Ben Haddou (near Ouarzazate). You can book one city or several on different days of your trip.

Are entrance fees included?

No. Tickets are paid on site, for example Bahia Palace about 100 MAD and Ben Youssef Madrasa about 50 MAD in Marrakech, madrasas about 20–30 MAD in Fes, and the Hassan II Mosque interior visit about 140 MAD in Casablanca.

Can we visit the inside of the Koutoubia Mosque?

Non-Muslims cannot enter the Koutoubia or most active mosques in Morocco. You visit the exterior, minaret and gardens. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is the main mosque open to all visitors.

Do we need a guide in Fes?

Strongly recommended for first-time visitors. Fes el-Bali is the hardest medina in Morocco to navigate, and an official guide avoids the unofficial "guides" who approach visitors at the gates.

Can non-Muslims visit the inside of the Hassan II Mosque?

Yes. The Hassan II Mosque offers official guided interior visits for all visitors at set times (not on Friday mornings). The ticket is about 140 MAD per adult and is paid on site.

When is the Rissani market?

The main souk days are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. On other days the town is quieter but the ksour, Sijilmassa and the mausoleum can still be visited.

Which films were shot in Ait Ben Haddou?

Among many others: Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, The Mummy, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and several episodes of Game of Thrones. Your guide shows you the exact spots.

Is the tour suitable for children and older travellers?

Yes. The pace is set by your group, with tea and rest stops. Strollers are difficult in the narrow medinas, so a baby carrier is easier for small children.

How do I book and pay?

Send us your date, number of people and hotel name on WhatsApp (+212 675 203 319). We reply quickly to confirm your guide, the meeting time and payment details.

What Our Travelers Say

Family trip · Google

We traveled to Morocco in a group of 6 adults, including my parents, who are already seniors, in the middle of summer. For my family it was a leap of faith to trust an agency we found online for the first time, but it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. Hamid, the trip organizer, was very kind and attentive both before and throughout the whole tour. It was a fully personalized tour - we got to do everything we wanted, from visiting the Sahara to enjoying the beach. He always looked out for our comfort, especially my parents': comfortable transport, well-timed stops at places with restrooms, beautiful air-conditioned hotels, and varied, plentiful food. Thanks to his organization we were able to enjoy the trip with real peace of mind. It was a great experience we would absolutely recommend.

Self-drive trip · Google

Last week I did a self-drive trip from Fes to Merzouga, leaving the car rental, the riad in Merzouga, the desert camp, and the guided desert activities all in the hands of MerzougaWay and Hamid, and I can only say that everything was perfectly organized, right on time. Thanks to everyone at the riad we stayed at and the desert camp, as well as the guides who joined us for the 4x4 experience, Berber culture, and the camel transfer. Thanks to Hamid and MerzougaWay for that quad-bike ride back to the riad from the camp - what an experience, riding a quad across the dunes early in the morning. If you're thinking of traveling to Merzouga, I definitely recommend Hamid as the organizer of your adventure.

Trustworthy tour agency. I wrote Hamid what I wanted and he just made it happen. He arranged everything so quick and smooth. We had a 3-day Merzouga tour from Marrakech. Said was our guide and he made me and my wife very comfortable. He took us from our riad and carried us in his modern 4x4 Toyota to magnificent places. He gave us the confidence to ask him whatever we wanted to do and wherever we wanted to drive - like old friends. He is open-minded and respectful. I recommend asking the agency for Said to be your driver. In the 3-day tour you cross the Atlas mountains, stay one night in a perfect hotel in Dades with great food, then stay one night in Erg Chebbi dunes in a luxury glamp camp. One night wasn't enough for a real desert experience - if you have time, take two nights in the desert.

Unforgettable holiday. An 8-day itinerant tour in Morocco, including 3 days organized by Hamid - MerzougaWay: a route from Fes to Marrakech, spending a night in the desert and in Ouarzazate. Our guide Youssef, who drove us all along the way, was very professional and took us to try real experiences that not all tourists get to see. Breathtaking landscapes - Morocco amazed and fascinated us. We drove many miles but still traveled comfortably. Absolutely recommend it - they are a highly professional agency and managed to take us to unique places, like a Berber village in the desert where we were the only tourists. A spectacular, unforgettable experience.

Morocco from the heart with MerzougaWay. Heartfelt congratulations to Hamid, who organized our trip impeccably - present, correct, and extremely helpful. A special mention for our driver Ali, who was by our side through 3 intense days toward the desert: attentive, polite, discreet, and a genuinely good, nice driver. We found snow in the Atlas range and then sun in Ait Ben Haddou, visited women's cooperatives working argan oil and roses, saw the Dades Gorges, and finally reached the Sahara dunes by camel before sleeping in a tented desert camp. 3 intense and exciting days. Next time in Morocco I'll rely on you again, inshallah!
